Today is a late day of games with many teams enjoying an off day. There are eight games in total with two starting before 7:05 EST. The weather should be good although it could be an issue later in the game between the Toronto BlueJays and the Cleveland Indians. Without further ado, here’s a look at some of the best options for your fantasy baseball team today.
James Paxton vs Astros (FD: 6,400 DK: 6,800)
The options on today’s slate are limited and the cheap options are even more limited. The best matchup of the day goes to Tim Cooney versus the Philadelphia Phillies but I personally have never even heard of Tim Cooney so I would not tell you to play him. Next best is Paxton who has struggled but has struck out a batter per inning thus far this season. The Astros have the highest K% in all of baseball making Paxton an upside play but this could very easily backfire as the Astros also feature a lineup capable of scoring runs as they are tied for 9th in that category.
Mike Leake vs Braves (FD: 7,300 DK: 7,200)
Leake has put up decent numbers on the season in daily leagues- seven or more in all of his four starts- going deep into games with at least seven IP in three straight and has yet to get a win this season. I think that changes today as he continues to go deep into ball games and the Reds’ lineup is able to score some runs off Shelby Miller and a Braves’ bullpen that has gotten beaten up the past few nights.
Darin Ruf vs Cardinals (FD: 2,200 DK: 3,400)
The aforementioned Tim Cooney above throws left-handed making Ruf an attractive option for today’s contests. Ruf has a wRC+ of 130 against lefties in his career but his career ISO of .240 against them making him a very attractive cheap option.
Carlos Santana vs Blue Jays (FD: 3,400 DK: 4,500)
Santana is another player who dominates left-handed pitching with a career wRC+ of 141. He is facing Blue Jay left hander Daniel Norris who has struggled in 2015 thus far. Santana should have a big game against the lefty and this makes him an attractive option for today.
Jose Iglesias vs Royals (FD: 2,600 DK: 3,200)
Iglesias has been red hot year and FanDuel continues to price him cheaply. The SS has been paying off for those who continue to play him as he finds himself hitting in an extremely potent offense. In a day where there are not a lot of options playing Iglesias allows you to save some salary for the bigger name players.
Blue Jays’ Righties
The Blue Jays are facing a lefty in T.J. House of the Indians and this gives their righties the advantage. Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion destroy all pitching but lefties in particular. Josh Donaldson is always a good option at third and other Blue Jays like Russell Martin and Devon Travis could be solid plays today. If you can afford them try to the get the big three guys in your lineups.
