Brewers activate Scooter Gennett

The Brewers announced today that Scooter Gennett has been activated by the Brewers and is in the starting lineup tonight. He injured his hand while showering in the Pirates’ clubhouse more than two weeks ago. Logan Schafer was sent down to Triple-A.

Gennett, 25, was struggling before his injury slashing .207/.303/.207 with a 36.4 K% and 6.1 BB% in 33 plate appearances. In his first two seasons (704 PA) in the majors he slashed .300/.331/.449 with a 113 wRC+ and 3.8 fWAR. With the small sample size so far in 2015, it is likely that he gets it going at some point during the season.

The Brewers recently fired Ron Roenicke and hired Craig Counsell as their manager after starting the season 7-18. Yesterday in Counsell’s debut they *defeated* Clayton Kershaw after coming back from a 3-0 deficit late in the game. Tonight, Matt Garza (2-3, 4.60) and Zack Greinke (4-0, 1.93) face off in the second game of the season.
