There are only eleven games being played today with the day being pretty much split down the middle. Five of the games start before 7:05 EST with the other six beginning after that time. Most leagues should be split into early and late for be careful with what you are doing and check lineups. Weather could have an impact with rain expected in Kansas City, St Louis, and Minnesota all around game time. Lets take a look at some players for today.
Dan Haren vs San Francisco Giants (FD: 7,800 DK: 7,400)
Haren is a solid MLB pitcher and has been for a long time. He has struggled recently but has pitched really well so far this year with a sub-3 ERA. The Giants offense is very pedestrian at best, scoring the third least runs in all of baseball thus far. Their wRC+ of 97 has them close to league average but they cannot score and pitchers who do not give up runs are always attractive in fantasy.
Anthony DeSclafani vs Pittsburg Pirates (FD: 7,500 DK: 6,800)
DeSclafani has been very good thus far in 2015 despite struggling in his first go around in 2014. The Pirates have scored the fourth-fewest runs in the league and have struck out with the seventh highest frequency. These factors make them an attractive offense to target for fantasy purposes. Look for DeSclafani to keep it rolling.
Avisail Garcia vs Detroit Tigers (FD: 2,800 DK: 4,500)
Garcia has been off to a solid start in 2015 and has been extremely solid against lefties. In a small sample Garcia is hitting .400 against southpaws and faces Kyle Lobstein of the Tigers today. Garcia has been better against lefties his whole career and I think he will be able to take advantage of the left-hander with a big day.
Danny Santana vs Oakland Athletics (FD: 2,800 DK: 4,100)
This is a pick to be careful with because of the impending weather heading for Target Field, but if they play the game look for Santana to have a good day. In his career Santana has a wRC+ of 123 against lefties which is not much higher than his 122 against righties but is still really good. Santana will be facing lefty Drew Pomeranz and is a good bet to have a good day for a hot Minnesota Twins team.
Victor Martinez vs Chicago White Sox (FD: 3,100 DK: 4,400)
Much has been made of Victor Martinez and his obliteration of left-handed pitching in 2014. Martinez has actually been even better in 2015, raising his average up above .400 against southpaws in the early going. Jose Quintana has been a pretty good pitcher in his career but no one is safe from Martinez’s bat.
Martin Prado vs Giants (FD: 3,000 DK: 3,500)
Prado got off to a slow start but has been heating up as of late with a hit in six straight games and nine of his last ten. He hits near the middle of a potentially potent offense, and although they are playing in a tough hitters ballpark, Prado is not going into lineups for power. He has extra base hit potential and should pay off for owners who add him to their lineups.
Jose Quintana has been good in his career but is off to a slow start to his 2015 campaign. They are rather expensive but I think the Tigers are going to tee off on the lefty. I already talked about Victor Martinez but Yoenis Cespedes, Anthony Gose, Miguel Cabrera, and Ian Kinsler are just some of the other Tigers I like today. I plan to have as many Tigers as I can in my lineup today.
