Today’s slate features a total of eleven games with five of them beginning at 2:20 EST or earlier. The remaining six games are slated to begin at 7:05 or later. The games in San Diego and in Los Angeles could be delayed as a result of rain being forecasted for both of those locations. Now let’s take a look at some players to target in these games.

Pitchers

Vance Worley vs Philadelphia Phillies (FD: 6,600 DK: 6,600)

Worley has been up and down all season and from a fantasy standpoint has been extremely inconsistent. However, on a day when there are not a ton of enticing cheap pitching options a capable starter like Worley against the worst offense in baseball is always a good aggressive play.

Chase Whitley vs Tampa Bay Rays (FD: 7,000 DK: 5,700)

Whitley made two excellent starts for the New York Yankees and then fell back to Earth, getting beaten up by the Baltimore Orioles in his last start. Whitley’s 2014 season was full of peaks and deep valleys and today against the Rays could be a chance for another one of those peaks. He held them in check over seven innings in his first start this year and look for him to do it again today.

Also Consider: Aaron Harang, Tim Lincecum

Hitters

Starlin Castro vs New York Mets (FD: 3,100 DK: 3,800)

The Mets are starting Jon Niese today and that bodes well for Castro. For his career Castro has hit over .300 against left-handers, more than 20 points higher than his average against righties. Look for Castro and the Chicago Cubs to have a big day and ruin what has been an excellent start to Niese’s season.

John Mayberry vs Chicago Cubs (FD: 2,200 DK: 3,100)

Mayberry has been really terrible this season so far hitting in the .100s. However, the Mets continue to play him against lefties, often times allowing Curtis Granderson to have the day off. This is because Mayberry loves lefties with a career .261 ISO against them. That is over 100 points higher than his ISO versus right-handers. Travis Wood has had home run issues in the past and that bodes well for Mayberry’s chances of leaving the yard.

Chase Headley vs Tampa Bay Rays (FD: 2,600 DK: 3,900)

Erasmo Ramirez is starting for the Rays and he owns an ugly ERA over 8 this season as well as an ERA approaching 5 for his career. It looks like the Yankees will be able to put up big numbers in this one making Headley a great option at a low price. Fire up the veteran third baseman in your lineups.

Dustin Pedroia vs Seattle Mariners (FD: 3,000 DK: 3,800)

Pedroia has been playing well this season and gets a platoon advantage against Mariners’ starter Roenis Elias who throws left-handed. Pedroia has hit over .300 in his career against southpaws and has shown a bit more power. The Boston Red Sox should score a lot in this one and Pedroia will be at the center of it.

Also Consider: Matt Duffy, Salvador Perez, Ian Desmond

Stacks

New York Yankees

As I stated above with Headley, Rays’ starter Erasmo Ramirez is not good at all. The Yankees feature a number of power hitters and I expect their lineup to have a huge day today. Look at the usual suspects of Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Mark Teixeira to have big games. Those three are bit highly priced but guys like Headley and Brian McCann are more reasonably priced.
