Houston Astros’ 27-year-old left-hander Dallas Keuchel entered Friday night’s game with a 4-0 record this season and an active 6-game winning streak dating back to Sept. 14, 2014. Keuchel has posted a 1.35 ERA (10ER/66.2IP) in nine starts.
Keuchel, the Tulsa, Oklahoma native, is looking to become the first Astros starter to begin his season 5-0 or better since RHP Roger Clemens started the 2004 campaign going 9-0.
According to Baseball-Reference, Keuchel has been the best pitcher in the Major Leagues this season, racking up a 2.6 WAR (wins above replacement). Keuchel leads all of baseball in ERA (1.39 ERA), opponents’ batting average (.163) and assists by a pitcher (17).
On May 4, Keuchel was named the American League Pitcher of the Month, for the month of April. He was the first Astro pitcher to win a Pitcher of the Month award since LHP Wandy Rodriguez was named the NL Pitcher of the Month in July of 2009.
In April, Keuchel went 3-0 in his five starts, posting a 0.73 ERA (3ER/37IP) and 22 strikeouts while allowing just 27 baserunners (16 hits, 11 walks) in 37 innings.
Keuchel was selected by the Houston Astros in the seventh round of the 2009 Draft. Last year in just his third season in the Majors, Keuchel won the AL Gold Glove Award, the first Astros pitcher in history to win the award and was named the Astros Pitcher of the Year by the Houston chapter of the BBWAA. Keuchel is signed with the Astros through the 2015 season.
