Fantasy Baseball: Outfield Assists

Outfield is the most diverse position in fantasy baseball because you have a lot of power guys mixed in with a lot of speed. Many different strategies are used because of the diversity at the position. If you have a wealth of power hitters, it’s always good to add some speed to your lineup and visa-verse.

Below is a list of outfielders who might be available in your league via trade or free agency to help fill a need. Some are about to come off the disabled list while others are performing well at the moment.

Hunter Pence
The San Francisco Giants outfielder is set to come off the disabled list within a week or so. While Pence is owned in most fantasy leagues, now might be a time to try to trade for him. His trade value is higher now than just a few weeks ago, but he still might be able to be had for a decent price.

Josh Hamilton
The Texas Rangers re-acquired Josh Hamilton at the end of April after an ugly end to his short stint with the Los Angeles Angels. Hamilton returns “home” and hopefully back to his comfort zone where he exceed and stayed on the straight and narrow. Hamilton is currently with the Rangers Triple-A affiliate Round Rock and is scheduled to be back in the majors by late May, if not sooner. Hamilton is only owned in 15% of ESPN leagues. If you have a spot available and need an outfielder, he wouldn’t be a bad option.

Andre Ethier
A main topic of trade conversation the past two off-seasons, Either is still a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been the odd man out when everyone is healthy. Yasiel Puig and Carl Crawford are both on the DL so Ethier has been seeing steady playing time the last few weeks. He is currently hitting .321 with five home runs on the season. While he will sit against a lefty once in a while, Ethier is still a quality addition especially with Puig still battling hamstring issues.

Avisail Garcia
While missing most of last year due to injury, the Chicago White Sox slugger is off to a great start in 2015. Garcia is hitting .322 with three home runs, 18 runs and 11 batted in. He is only 23 and has the potential to hit 20+ home runs. If none of the above are available, Garcia would be a nice fall back option.

Other names to keep an eye on:
Torii Hunter (.364/2 HR/7 RBI) in the past seven days.
Shin-Soo Choo (.414/2 HR/5 RBI) in the past seven days.
Khris Davis (.435/2 HR/7 RBI) in the past seven days.

Don’t wait too long to add any of these guys. If you are needing an outfielder make the move now, they might not be available tomorrow.
