Hunter Pence activated, batting sixth

According to Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area, the Giants have activated right fielder Hunter Pence, as expected. Third string catcher Hector Sanchez has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.

In the third game against the Reds in Cincinnati, Pence is batting sixth behind Brandon Belt and Buster Posey.

Pence, 32, was recovering from a fractured left forearm that occurred during Spring Training. He rehabbed with Triple-A Sacramento for a week after missing the first month and a half of the season.

In 2014, Pence slashed .277/.332/.445 with 20 home runs, 123 wRC+, and a 4.6 fWAR. He helped the Giants win their third World Series in five seasons.

The Giants sit at 18-18, third in the National League West and 5.5 games out. In the Wild Card race they are 1.5 games back of the Nationals and Cubs.

Pence went 2 for 3 with a walk and three runs scored in his 2015 debut. He was taken out of the game in the sixth for rest as the Giants were leading by ten runs.
