Report: Braves inquire with Brewers regarding Jonathan Lucroy

The Atlanta Braves have been disappointed with the season 23-year-old catcher Christian Bethancourt has put up, both offensively and defensively, as he has hit .190 with zero home runs and five RBI. Bathancourt’s slow start has the Braves searching for a catcher on the trade market and they recently called a team regarding the availability of one of the games top catchers.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Braves recently called the Milwaukee Brewers regarding catcher Jonathan Lucroy, but were informed that Lucroy is not available for trade.

Lucroy, 28, is coming off of a great 2014 season that saw him hit .301 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI. This season, however, has gone about as poorly as he could have imagined, as he’s been hurt for most of the season. In 12 games played, he has hit .133 with zero home runs and one RBI.

Even with Lucroy’s poor start to the season, his trade value is still very high, given his past performances and team friendly deal that doesn’t pay him more than $6 million per year through the 2017 season.

Plenty of other teams will come calling about Lucroy’s availability, but barring some team offering a kings ransom for him, Lucroy will be a Brewer in 2015 and beyond.
