Option 5: Make a splash and trade for Ben Zobrist.
Speaking of headline breakers, Mozeliak could swing a deal for super-utility man Ben Zobrist if the price is right. Zobrist, currently with Oakland, is slashing a modest .246/.306/.400, but has only played 18 games and has a mere 72 plate appearances.
The 34-year-old has been above or around a .270 batting average and .350 OBP over the last four years, so if Mozeliak pulls the trigger on a deal involving Zobrist he won’t be expecting too much. Not only does Zobrist offer decent production at the plate, he can move all around the field, as he has played pretty much every position at some point in his career. Mozeliak can’t afford to wait too long if he has his eye on Zobrist however, as Cubs manager Joe Maddon has said he plans to push Chicago’s front office to make a move for Zobrist, who played for Maddon in Tampa Bay.
