The Orioles have acquired minor league RHP Joe Gunkel from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for OF Alejandro De Aza and cash considerations.

De Aza was designated for assignment by Baltimore after being acquired from the White Sox in 2014 and eventually signed a one year, $5 million deal with the Orioles.
The 31-year old was slashing .214/.277/.359 with 3 homers, and a 71 wRC+ in 112 plate appearances this season after posting a .537 slugging in 2014 with Baltimore.
Steamer projected De Aza was going to be a league average hitter with good enough defense to be a key role player. He has a career 98 wRC+ and .401 slugging, so he could be useful for Boston down the stretch.
