The Miami Marlins have called up LHP Justin Nicolino from Triple-A New Orleans, according to a club announcement.
Justin will make the start tonight against the Cincinnati Reds in replacement of RHP Tom Koehler who was scrathced due to neck and back discomfort. In order to clear a spot for Nicolino on the club’s 25-man roster, C Jhonatan Solano has been designated for assignment.
Nicolino makes his MLB debut tonight against former teammate Anthony DeSclafani who was sent with him and many others to the Marlins from the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the big 12-player blockbuster which took place in November of 2012.
Nicolino is 4-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 13 games so far this season at the Triple-A level having pitched in 78 1/3 innings, striking out 45 hitters and walking 21. Justin is currently ranked No. 3 prospect in the Marlins organization and looks to keep it that way with a strong first performance tonight in Cincinnati.
