Report: Cardinals interested in Marlins’ Steve Cishek

The Miami Marlins have a number of pitchers drawing trade interest, including Mat Latos and Dan Haren, but there is another pitcher that is quietly generating interest from teams around the league.

The St. Louis Cardinals are “looking at” Marlins right-handed relief pitcher Steve Cishek, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

Coming into the year, Cishek was the Marlins’ closer, but he was optioned to Double-A to work on his mechanics after a rough start to the season.

Prior to 2015, the 29-year-old Cishek was a solid option late in games for the Marlins, having posted a 2.33 to 3.17 ERA every year since 2011.

Cishek would be an ideal buy low target for teams in need of relief pitching. Yes, he’s had a bad year, but he’s had a lot of previous success that teams can’t overlooked.  If he can bounce back and regain his previous form, Cishek could be one of the steals of the deadline, if he is in fact traded.
