The New York Mets, who are on the lookout for a hitter, are “working on a trade” to acquire a “big bat” and talks are gaining “momentum,” according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. It is unclear if the deal will get done, but Marc Carig of Newsday reports a deal is “very close.”

Earlier today, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported that the Mets are interested in Justin Upton, Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Gomez, Gerardo Parra and Jay Bruce, among others.

Another option that would make some sense is the newly available Yoenis Cespedes, but Martino reports the Mets are not in on him.

Stay tuned.
