The Toronto Blue Jays have continued to be active prior to the deadline. They have now added to their bullpen as they have traded for right-handed reliever Mark Lowe of the Seattle Mariners in exchange minor league lefties Nick Wells, Jake Brentz and Rob Rasmussen, as reported by Chris Cotillo of SB Nation.
The Blue Jays needed to bolster their the relief corps before the deadline and despite having already added LaTroy Hawkins to the mix, they have added another effective reliever to their pen. Lowe has a 1.00 ERA through 36 innings across 34 games and holds a sizzling 11.8 SO/9 ratio on the season. He should give the Blue Jays another viable late-inning reliever to use in order to further position themselves for a run to the postseason. The three minor league players that are being sent to the Mariners are unknown at this point.
The Marlins are acquiring three young pitchers to add to their system. The lefty Wells is currently pitching in Class-A and has pitched to a 4.78 ERA across 32 innings of work. Fellow lefty Brentz is also pitching in Class-A and is sporting a 4.09 ERA across 22 innings of work. Rasmussen is a relief pitcher and has pitched at AAA this season hold a 2.36 ERA across 42 innings of relief work with an 8.6 SO/9 ratio.
