The Pittsburgb Pirates announced earlier today in a press release that RHP A.J. Burnett is expected to miss 4 weeks with an elbow injury.
This frankly is a big break for the Pitates, Burnett, and their fans.
The veteran was placed on the 15 day D.L. with elbow inflammation last Friday and feared that he would be out for the season.
In an interview with Tom Singer of MLB.com, Burnett predicted today’s MRI would have revealed damage to his UCL or flexor tendon.
Instead Burnett has a strained right flexor tendon and his UCL is intact according to a tweet by Fox Sports Jon Morosi.

Burnett received a platelet-rich plasma injection today and will begin to recover.
The Pirates are currently in the middle of a division and wild card race and desperately need Burnett back as soon as possible.
Burnett is 8-5 with a 3.06 ERA and a 3.07 FIP in 135.1 IP with a 120 ERA+. He was named a National League All Star this season.
