The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Will Venable from the San Diego Padres, the Rangers announced Tuesday. Texas will send Marcus Greene and a player to be named later to San Diego and designate Michael Choice for assignment.

Venable, 32, is having a solid season slashing .258/.318/.378 with a 1.1 fWAR in 308 plate appearances. He plays every outfield position, the ideal fourth or fifth outfielder. He will be a free agent this winter.
The Rangers sit at 60-57, three games back of the Astros in the division and one game back of the second wild card slot. Venable will join Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields Jr., Josh Hamilton, Ryan Rua and Leonys Martin (DL) in the outfield for the Rangers.
Greene, 20, was drafted by the Rangers in the 16th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, has played catcher and the outfield. In 577 career minor league plate appearances, he is hitting .250/.390/.397 with 11 home runs, and 49 runs batted in.
