Washington Nationals bold predictions revisited

3. Max Scherzer will win the NL Cy Young.

This one looked really good for a long time. Scherzer was definitely in the running to win the award, as he nearly threw three no-hitters in a row during a ridiculously dominant stretch at the end of June. His ERA was as low as 1.51 at the end of May. In the end, the weight of carrying the Nationals’ underperforming rotation seems to have been too much for Scherzer. In the second half of the season, Scherzer’s ERA has climbed from 2.11 at the break all the way up to 2.89 after his most recent start. Scherzer has still been an ace this year, but he just hasn’t been able to match the level of dominance of Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw. Though he has faded from the Cy Young discussion, there is no reason for Scherzer to hang his head about the 2015 season.
