Postseason and Season Awards: Baseball Essential Staff Predictions

American League Rookie of the Year

Carlos Correa (70%)

Also Recieving Votes: Francisco Lindor (24%) Miguel Sano (3%) Roberto Osuna (3%)

At the beginning of the year, few expected the Houston Astros to make much of an impact in the playoff race, much less lead the AL West, heading into the season’s final weeks. While the Astros fell off the pace in September, this season has been beyond impressive for the young club, led by Dallas Keuchel, Jose Altuve, and Correa, who didn’t even make his debut until June 8. Despite missing 63 games, Correa still had enough time to club 22 home runs. Lindor, as expected, was an above-average defensive shortstop, but also showed proficiency with his bat, and had a strong second half. Sano, considered one of the best prospects in the game didn’t disappoint as the Twins hung around the AL Wild Card race until the final week of the season. Roberto Osuna helped stabilize the back end of a Blue Jays bullpen that had some serious question marks heading into the season.
