[tps_title]2. Bud Black –– Former San Diego Padres Manager[/tps_title]
Out of all the “free-agent” managers, Bud Black reigns supreme, he has quite a bit of managing experience, having led the Padres from 2007 until his dismissal in June. While his .477 winning percentage doesn’t exactly scream elite, that is much more an indictment on the teams he had, than his ability to lead. Black has received high ratings from his players regarding his ability to run a clubhouse, and has cooperated with sabremetrics-friendly front offices from his time with Josh Byrnes (now a member of the Dodgers front office). Before his time in San Diego, Black worked on Mike Scioscia‘s staff as a pitching coach, and was there for the Angels’ lone World Series title in 2002. Black also recently interviewed for the Nationals’ opening.
