5.) A parting of ways
The 2015 season showed a few things — the Nationals are getting old. The Nationals have an opportunity to do a minor rebuild this winter. The front office needs to let Ian Desmond, Denard Span, and Jordan Zimmermann walk. That will free up some salary space and open the door for Trea Turner at shortstop as well as fully establishing Taylor as the starting centerfielder. If Zimmermann leaves as expected, the Nationals can look to fill his spot in the rotation with a short contract for a pitcher like Brett Anderson or Scott Kazmir. The Nationals don’t need a starter on a five-year contract as Lucas Giolito could be ready for the majors by the end of the year.
