Just hours before the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals are set to face each other in Game 1 of the Fall Classic from Kauffman Stadium, the World Series rosters have been announced for the participating clubs.
The New York Mets, who swept the Chicago Cubs in a four game sweep in the NLCS, will return with largely the same roster from the previous two rounds with the lone exception of midseason acquisition Juan Uribe, who returns to the active roster after suffering a chest injury at the end of the regular season. Uribe will replace rookie infielder Matt Reynolds, who replaced Ruben Tejada on the active roster after Game 2 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Below is the complete 25 man roster for the New York Mets:
The Kansas City Royals, the first American League team to return to the World Series in consecutive years since the Texas Rangers in 2010 and 2011, have added top prospect Raul Mondesi to the active roster as a pinch runner, replacing Terrence Gore. Mondesi, the son of former major league outfielder Raul Mondesi, could make baseball history by becoming the first player in baseball history to make their debut in the World Series. Mondesi qualified for a spot on the World Series roster since he was a member of the organization on August 31st. Mondesi will serve as an injury replacement for Greg Holland, who has not pitched for the Royals in the postseason. Reliever Joba Chamberlain was released for the 40 man roster to make room for Mondesi.
