Keys to Hoisting the Trophy: New York Mets

The World Series starts in Kansas City tonight, when the New York Mets square off against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. It will be Daniel Murphy and the Mets pitching staff against Alcides Escobar and the Royals bullpen.

Game 1 will feature New York’s Dark Knight, Matt Harvey (13-8, 2.71 ERA), against Kansas City’s Edinson Volquez (13-9 3.55 ERA) at 8 PM ET tonight. In a series that figures to be heavy on pitching, it’ll be a close one that hopefully will go the distance like last year.

The Mets are coming in hot after their sweep of the Chicago Cubs. Daniel Murphy was (obviously) named MVP of the series as he slashed .529/.556/.1.294 with 4 home runs, 6 RBI, and 6 runs scored. Of course the Mets must now focus on the task ahead as they get set to face a tough Royals team later tonight. What will the Mets have to do to bring the first championship back to Queens since 1986?

Three keys: pitch well, hit well, field well. Damn, what a concept.
