The 2015 Fall Stars Game, being held this Saturday, November 7th, will be a showcase of the 2013 MLB draft. While Kris Bryant was in the MLB All-Star game, many of the other big names will be showcased in Salt River.
Clint Frazier (5th), Austin Meadows (9th), Dominic Smith (11th), D.J. Peterson (12th), Reese McGuire (14th), and Christian Arroyo (25th) are the 2013 first rounders in the event. There are three other former first rounders on the rosters, Lucas Sims from 2012 and Kyle Freeland and Alex Blandino from 2014.
The East Division roster breaks down as follows:
Pitchers: Corey Black (Cubs), Ray Black (Giants), Nick Burdi (Twins), Abel De Los Santos (Nationals), Kyle Freeland (Rockies), Perci Garner (Indians), Chad Girodo (Blue Jays), Greg Mahle (Angels), Sean Manaea (Athletics), Adam Miller (Diamondbacks), and Adam Ravanelle (Tigers)
Catchers: Wilson Contreras (Cubs) and Oscar Hernandez (Diamondbacks)
And for the West Division roster:
Pitchers: Jacob Barnes (Brewers), Ralston Cash (Dodgers), Donnie Hart (Orioles), Chaz Herbert (Yankees), Robinson Leyer (White Sox), Damien Magnifico (Brewers), Edubray Ramos (Phillies), Alex Reyes (Cardinals), David Rollins (Mariners), Lucas Sims (Braves), and Eric Yardley (Padres)
Catchers: Reese McGuire (Pirates) and Gary Sanchez (Yankees)
The first thing about the rosters that jumped out is the fact that there are two players on the Fall Stars’ roster that were involved in two different Ben Zobrist trades just this year. Daniel Robertson went to the Rays, along with Boog Powell and John Jaso, for Zobrist and Yunel Escobar back on January 10th. Zobrist was then traded to the Royals on July 28th for Aaron Brooks and Fall Stars participant Sean Manaea.
Power and speed are certainly represented on the rosters, as the AFL leaders, as of Monday morning, in home runs (Gary Sanchez) and steals (Adam Engel) are both on the rosters. If you are looking for power arms, Ray Black and Alex Torres will both hit triple digits on the radar gun.
The game is at 8:08 EST on Saturday and will be televised live on MLB Network.
