1.) Starting pitching
By FanGraphs WAR, the Giant’s best pitcher was Madison Bumgarner (5.1), which isn’t surprising, but Sergio Romo was next at 1.8. With a large number of mediocre pitchers on the club’s roster, there should be plenty of changes to the staff this winter.
This is speculation, but Drew Hutchison of the Toronto Blue Jays and Anibal Sanchez of the Detroit Tigers could be available in trades this winter. These two would undeniably improve the Giants’ staff. Sanchez is due $16.8MM each of the next two seasons and has a $16MM club option in 2018 with a $5MM buyout while Hutchison is going to be in his second year of arbitration.
Free agents Zack Greinke, David Price, Johnny Cueto, and Jordan Zimmermann are the top of the free agent starting pitching class with Mike Leake, Ian Kennedy, Doug Fister, Marco Estrada, Scott Kazmir, and John Lackey as second-tier options. The Giants showed last winter that they were willing to spend over $150MM for the right pitcher (Lester), so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they did the same with Price (no qualifying offer) or another top gun.
The S.F. Giants need to let go of their the most injury prone players…while they are have some value…Sitting on the DL Bench most of the year is not help win games…or keep the morale high…for the other players!…Giant management need to be focused before Spring Training 2016…Go S.F. Giants in 2016!
