To go along with rotation insurance, the Phillies need to hope for a rightfielder with a bat that can help produce runs. The easy way is to re-sign Jeff Francoeur, who posted decent enough numbers with a .718 OPS with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 326 at-bats. Francoeur is not a long-term piece, but someone has to bat in the middle of the order.
Along with Francoeur, the Phillies might want to take a shot at free agent Ian Desmond. The 30-year-old could possibly look to turn his hitting career around and what a better place to do it than in Citizens Bank Park. If the Phillies are going to go crazy on just one free agent, Desmond could be a reasonable target.
