Tampa Bay Rays offseason wish list

With little money to spend on the likes of Justin Upton or Chris Davis, who is in the realm of the possible for the Rays?

Tell me if you heard this before? Ryan Howard.

He is owed $35 million over the next two years (which includes a $10 million buyout), so the Philadelphia Phillies would have to eat a significant portion. Also, his .229/.277/.443, 23 HR, 77 RBI, -1.4 WAR in 129 games is nothing to write home about. But, Howard is building a home in the area and perhaps the change of scenery turns him around. There is also the lack of flexibility Kevin Cash will have since Howard would have to be entrenched as a permanent DH. However, if the price is right, the power he can bring to the lineup could be a wish come true.

Yasiel Puig. I have written about the possibilities of a trade between the Rays on the Los Angeles Dodgers here. The excitement and power that Puig can bring to the lineup is intriguing. He may come with some baggage, but the upside can be the difference.

Chris Carter

Essentially a right-handed, younger version of Howard. The Astros have other options at first base which has driven rumors Carter may be moved. Carter could compliment the defensive-minded James Loney, if he is not traded first.
