Arizona Diamondbacks Offseason Wish List

2.) Figure out the Outfield

The outfield in Arizona is one big, jumbled up mess, lead by center fielder, AJ Pollock. There are four other options, besides Pollock, that make up the rest of the outfield. Those options are: David Peralta, Yasmany Tomas, Ender Inciarte and top prospect Peter O’Brien.

Yasmany Tomas would be likely to get one of the corner spots, most likely right field due to the somewhat large contract he signed last offseason, which would leave one final spot open for three players. In the first slide I mentioned adding some pitching. Well, another way to do that is by trading players and the player the Diamondbacks should shop around is David Peralta.

Peralta, 28, is coming off a good season, posting a .312/.371/.522 slash with a .893 OPS, seven home runs and 78 RBIs in 517 plate appearances. If you look a little deeper at Peralta’s sabermetrics, you will see a lot of them are highly inflated, meaning that this kind of production will most likely not happen again. His BABIP was .368 (normal range is around .300, .310 for power/speed hitters), not to mention his defense in left field was only average, as he posted a -1.8 UZR and a -2 defensive run scored stat.

The D’backs could get a nice mid-rotation starter for Peralta, which would sure up the weak rotation and would also open up a spot for Ender Inciarte or Peter O’Brien in the outfield, making it a win-win for the D’backs.
