Daniel Murphy Potential Destinations

New York Yankees

*2016 Committed Payroll: $219,282,196

*2016 Expected  Positions to Fill: Pitching and infield depth.

The Yankees would be an intriguing fit for Murphy. Playing in New York his whole career, Murphy has shown that he can handle the pressure of the Big Apple. The Yankees have never been afraid of taking a former Met and turn him into a fan favorite.

In 2016, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira demonstrated that they can still provide the Bombers with some pretty good production, but the downside is that they need plenty of rest. Having a player like Murphy can allow Teixeira to DH or have Murphy DH when A-Rod needs a rest. Stephen Drew had an odd season, providing power and defense but he will not be extended a Qualifying Offer, meaning that he will become a free agent (A .200 batting average for a full-time player wasn’t ideal anyways.) Murphy would provide stability at that position if signed and he would also benefit greatly from playing half his games at Yankee Stadium. The one thing that Murphy tends to lack in hitting is power, but that could change with a move out of the spacious Citi Field.
