Should the A’s Trade Sonny Gray?

The A’s offseason starts and ends with whether or not they will trade ace Sonny Gray. Gray went 14-7 with a 2.73 ERA on an awful A’s team. He is easily their best pitcher and one of the best pitchers in the game today.

Gray is not eligible to become a free agent until 2020, making him an incredibly attractive piece to numerous teams in need of an ace. The A’s are known to trade their best players, whom they know they will not be able to sign, for a package of players who can help them in multiple areas and facets. Beane could choose to do this and ship Gray to a team such as the Boston Red Sox or Chicago Cubs who are in need of pitching and have a surplus of young players.

Beane does not need to trade Gray and, unless he gets an offer that blows him away, I would expect Beane to hang onto him for at least another season. Prediction: Gray is the Athletics Opening Day Starter in 2016.
