The 2015 season was the most disappointing one for the Padres in recent memory. While the Padres have been mired in mediocrity for the better part of the 21st century, 2015 was supposed to be different. Expectations were high following the grand offseason makeover orchestrated by A.J. Preller. Preller was supposed to finally bring winning baseball back to San Diego after a long hiatus. In hindsight, Preller’s experiment was at times short-sighted and at the worst, disastrous.
Going forward, the Padres have a lot of work to do to right all the wrongs of last season. This offseason should be one in which the Padres are very active, given the vast amount of needs all around the diamond. A.J. Preller’s first offseason will be a tough act to follow, but the Padres certainly need better. What follows is five burning questions that the Padres must answer this offseason if they hope to remedy the failures of 2015.
