Justin Upton: Possible Destinations

Texas Rangers

The final team who could be the best potential fit for Justin Upton is the Texas Rangers. After a surprise second half run to the American League West crown, the Rangers were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the Toronto Blue Jays. If there is one weakness in the Rangers high powered offense, it is the simple fact that their lineup is too left handed heavy overall. With Josh Hamilton, Shin-Soo Choo, Rougned Odor, Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland all as regulars in the starting lineup, the Rangers play a little too left-handed heavy at times. While the Rangers got good production from both Choo in right and Deshields in center, Hamilton struggled a bit in left and did not seem to be the same player he was in the past.

With this deficiency of right-handed power in mind, Justin Upton is a name that instantly comes to mind as a potential good fit for the Rangers. If the Rangers are able to move one of their other left-handed outfielders, and open a position on the diamond for a player like Upton, it would make a lot of sense for the team to add a power hitting right-handed bat. The team currently plays Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre and catcher Robinson Chirinos as right-handed options, but none of the three display the sheer power of a player like Upton. Upton would solidify the Rangers lineup behind Beltre and Fielder and will just be one more option for an already potent offense. This deal may appear unlikely as it currently stands, but could be a potential fit to keep an eye on.
