Justin Morneau, 1B/DH
Morneau’s option with the Colorado Rockies was declined after another year in which the big first baseman suffered through head injuries. That’s been a sad trend throughout Morneau’s 13-year career. The 2006 MVP is still capable of showing up to the park everyday and batting .280 with a .360 OBP. After watching much of the Baltimore lineup struggle to reach base with any consistency this season, I’ve got one question, where do I sign up for that?
Morneau should be attractive to the Orioles because he is most likely looking for a one- or two-year deal to wrap up his career. The Orioles need a consistent DH option after riding the Jimmy Paredes roller coaster for most of last year. Morneau could provide a steady hand at DH, and staying off the field would help him stay healthy. Whether or not Chris Davis re-signs, Morneau is a great value play for the Orioles.
