The Arizona Diamondbacks have significant interest in signing free agent right-handed pitcher Mike Leake, according to league sources.
Leake was acquired by the San Francisco Giants in a mid-season trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Leake, 28, went 11-10 last season to go along with a 3.70 ERA and a 119/49 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
With the Diamondbacks, Leake would step in and be an immediate upgrade at the top-of-the-rotation.
Leake played baseball at Arizona State, which is near Chase Field. It’s possible that the interest between the Diamondbacks and Leake is mutual, given his familiarity with the area.
MLBTradeRumors.com projects Leake to land a five-year, $80 million deal.
