Question 4: Can this team make Seattle a baseball city again?
In the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Seattle was a town overrun with Mariners’ pride. After missing the playoffs for the fourteenth straight season in 2015 and the team next door, Seattle Seahawks, having great success and even winning a championship; the focus in Seattle has shifted. It was easy to love the M’s when Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Randy Johnson were on the lineup card and having success. For the first time in a long time last season, experts predicted the Mariners to not only make the postseason, but to win the World Series. A buzz and contained excitement filled the air in Seattle wanting desperately for the M’s to bring home a title.
Now obviously that didn’t happen for them in 2015.
A new front office and a really good core four (Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager) have the M’s really close to not only the playoffs but a deep run into late October. The Seahawks aren’t having a dominant season so the time might be right for the tide to start to turn back in the Mariners’ favor. The fan base wants to support and fill SafeCo Field again but the organization must field a winner.
