Ben Zobrist

This will take a little more creativity on the part of the Nationals. The team is likely to lose Ian Desmond, and most feel confident the club will hand the keys at shortstop over to Trea Turner. At this point in his career, Zobrist is likely better off playing second base or outfield, but the Nationals could give him a look at shortstop if they want to give Turner some more time to develop before throwing him to the wolves.

The Nationals could also go forward with Turner at shortstop and look to unload Yunel Escobar, opening a spot for Zobrist at second base. Escobar has never been known to be a positive clubhouse influence in his career. The nine-year veteran has already played for four teams in his career. Zobrist would represent a big upgrade in the leadership department, something the Nationals desperately need. If the team cannot land Zobrist, and wants to move Escobar, Howie Kendrick is another name worth considering.
