With the full time move of Lonnie Chisenhall to the outfield, the Indians now have a bit of a hole at third base for 2016. As it currently stands, youngster Giovanny Urshela looks to be the best option for the third base job if no players are added from outside of the organization. Urshela played in half of the Indians game in his rookie season, but did not inspire with the results on the field. Urshela may get another chance at more playing time, although the Indians may feel inclined to upgrade the position next season. Beyond Urshela, the Indians also have Chris Johnson at third base, but there is next to zero chance that Johnson will see any significant playing time in 2016.
Similarly to the Houston Astros, the Indians do have the pieces to get this type of trade done if they do decide that an upgrade is necessary. The Indians have several strong prospects in their minor league system that would definitely intrigue the Reds. A deal starting with one of Bradley Zimmer or Clint Frazier would definitely entice the Reds and could be a good starting point for this kind of trade. It remains to be seen whether the Indians would want to pay that price for a two year rental of a player like Todd Frazier, but they do have the capabilities to complete the deal.
