The real question remains: why give up an arm and a leg for them when you can ultimately sign a quality reliever via free agency?
O’Day is a guy who makes a lot of sense for the Astros, as he has the ability to serve as a seventh- or eighth-inning guy while also having the experience to close games. Luke Gregerson did a great job closing games for the team this season, so why fix what isn’t broken?
The team does have to shore up how to get the ball to Gregerson, and O’Day would be a perfect fit. If the team is able to add both Bastardo and O’Day, they could create a back-end of the bullpen that could be one of the game’s best. The Kansas City Royals were the ones who set the blueprint on creating a dominant bullpen, and it’s a strategy that could help the Astros down the road.
