Who Will The Tigers Protect?

I’d Say So: These guys could be added, but they might not

SP Joshua Turley: Turley is pretty much the opposite of what I just described with Labourt. He’s a toolsy starter who uses a lot of different pitches to stay unpredictable and go with what’s working to help him find success in a start, and he’s done a lot of that the past two years, most recently in Double-A Erie. Turley also throws a knuckleball at times, which is pretty interesting in itself. He has a chance at helping the Tigers in 2016 with a spot start or when they need a fresh bullpen arm to be called up too. I’d say Turley is likely to be the third man added tomorrow if I had to guess what Al Avila will do.

RP Johan Belisario: Belisario has been a dominant bullpen arm in the past two years. He doesn’t allow a ton of baserunners and pitched very well last season. He has a good fastball and decent stuff, but the reason he may not be added to the 40-man is that he won’t help any playoff contending team in 2016, as he only pitched at Low-A West Michigan last season. Belisario probably could’ve been promoted, but regardless he’s still a bit shy of being big-league ready and still needs the experience. If a fourth guy is added to the Tigers roster, I’d give him the nod.
