Five Reasons to be Thankful for Postseason Baseball

2. The Unthinkable Can Happen At Any Moment

As mentioned in the previous slide, Jose Bautista hit that monster game-changing home run to give the Toronto Blue Jays’ the ALDS series win over the Rangers. Just for this game alone, let’s go over the crazy moments that led to the Blue Jays’ victory:

  • Rougned Odor scores the go-ahead run in the seventh due to a throw by Russell Martin that bounced off the bat of Shin-Soo Choo. Blue Jays’ fans throw beer cans onto the field in result of the umpires’ ruling of Odor being safe at home (video above).
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rangers defense commits three errors that results in one run scoring to tie the game (VIDEO), that ends up turning into a four-run inning off the bat of Jose Bautista (VIDEO).

Other unthinkable postseason moments that come to mind — at least for myself — are Raul Ibanez‘s home run heroics for the Yankees in the 2012 ALDS against the Orioles, Delmon Young‘s pinch-hit, bases-clearing, lead-changing double for the Orioles in the 2014 ALDS against the Tigers, and Joe Carter‘s walk off home run to win the World Series for the 1993 Blue Jays against the Philadelphia Phillies.
