3. Steven Matz, SP, New York Mets
The baseball world was introduced to Steven Matz already last year and, had he not gotten hurt, he wouldn’t even be eligible. He did get hurt though, which means he has a tremendous chance to win the award this coming year. A lot was made last season about Steven Matz’s ability to hit, but through all that he put up some impressive numbers on the hill, too. The New York native posted a 4-and-0 record with a 2.27 ERA, while striking out 34 in six starts. He also started three times in the playoffs, going 0-and-1 with a slightly higher 3.68 ERA. The Mets’ rotation is already incredibly loaded, which it makes it so hard to believe that the majority of them are still early in their careers. Steven Matz is no different.
