Report: Athletics, Dodgers in on Ryan Madson

The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams pursuing free agent relief pitcher Ryan Madson, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Madson, 35, had a big year for the Kansas City Royals in his first year pitching since 2011. In 68 appearances, he went 1-2 with a 2.13 ERA and a 58/14 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The Dodgers are looking to add a solid set-up man to Kenley Jansen and now that the team is out on Darren O’Day (per Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com), Los Angeles’ top target appears to be Madson.

Oakland is a legitimate suitor for Madson’s services, according to Jane Lee of MLB.com. After acquiring Marc Rzepczynski, Athletics general manager David Forst told reporters that adding to the bullpen will be a priority, so the interest in Madson makes sense.

It’s unclear if anything is close, but we should continue to hear more about the situation as the Winter Meetings draw closer.
