10. Will the Reds Find A Suitor for Aroldis Chapman?
While trade talks were heating up Sunday night between the Dodgers and the Reds, Aroldis Chapman’s trade status will be one of the most important storylines of the Winter Meetings. With Kimbrel off the market, Chapman is now the clear cut top closer available and should drive the rest of the bullpen market. Whatever teams missed out on Kimbrel, O’Day, and even Madson will all be interested in Chapman. Even though it may be too soon for a deal to get done at the meetings, there will certainly be a lot of action for the Reds general manager on the Chapman trade front.
11. Are the Arizona Diamondbacks Ready to Contend?
Immediately following the shock signing of Zack Greinke, many wondered if the Arizona Diamondbacks are finally ready to compete for a playoff spot in 2016. While Greinke was a huge move, it appears the D’backs are far from finished. The Winter Meetings will go a long way in showing not only the NL West, but really the whole National League, how serious the Diamondbacks are about competing next season. Greinke didn’t leave to Arizona to lose, so the D’backs should be very busy at the Winter Meetings on both the free agent and trade fronts, with Mike Leake and Shelby Miller being two names to watch.
12. What’s the Dodgers Next Move?
After watching their division rivals take Zack Greinke from right under their noses, the Los Angeles Dodgers stand at a bit of a crossroads. Needing to respond to the moves of both the Diamondbacks and Giants, and with holes to fill, the Dodgers inked both Chase Utley and Hisashi Iwakuma to new contracts and also reportedly began discussions with the Reds for Aroldis Chapman. These moves are likely just the beginning for the Dodgers, and the Winter Meetings will be a very busy time for them once again this year.
