Double Knit Champs: 1972-1980

In what has to be Oakland’s most signature look, it was easily their greatest era. From 1972 to 1974, the A’s won three World Series despite a carousel of coaches, players displeasure with Charles Finley and there was even bad blood between the players. It was a crazy time in the 1970’s (They even had a young MC Hammer as a bat boy!). These double knit uniforms were the only thing not causing drama in the clubhouse.

The V-neck tops came in every Athletics color imaginable – white, green, yellow. Even the pants got the same treatment, with white on white, green on white, yellow on yellow, yellow on white and even green on green. What can I say, it was the 1970’s.

There were two different back number color schemes for the yellow jersey top. With green letters, the numbers were worn with both green with white trim and white with green trim. Even Hammer was rocking it on his jersey top.

A new logo, that most fans are familiar with, gave the hat an updated look. No more all green hats, green with a yellow bill became the standard. Coaches were still wearing the white and green lid.
