Towards the end of the 80’s, the Mariners decided to get a new look. For a team that spent their first ten seasons in the cellar (never finishing above .500 in any season), a new set of uniforms might mean better fortune.

Keeping in tune with the 1985 and 1986 uniforms, both home and away jerseys say “Mariners” on the front. The “Mariners” script was blue with yellow trim but with a blue drop shadow. Both jerseys had the player number in blue on the lower left. The back letters and numbers were blue.

Seattle changed the hat logo as well. Trident “M” was out, drop shadow “S” was in. The blue hats may not have been as decorative as the old ones, but it was different.
