4.) Will the Miami Marlins actually make a trade?
There was plenty of bluster coming out of the Miami Marlins camp surrounding Jose Fernandez and Marcell Ozuna. The ace and the center fielder have allegedly fallen out of favor with owner Jeffrey Loria. The owner has made it very clear that he is displeased with Ozuna, and it’s hard to imagine he will play for the Marlins next year. Whether or not the team has totally soured on Fernandez’s attitude is a bit more unclear. Regardless, Fernandez is 23 years old and is not a free agent until 2019. The Marlins will have to be absolutely blown away to trade him at this point. Ozuna, not so much, but there is no predicting if Loria will be reasonable in his demands when it comes to the 25-year-old center fielder.
The Marlins do not really need to trade either, but could have alienated themselves from both players so much that the situation becomes unworkable for 2016. Ozuna should be viewed as more likely to be gone, as the Marlins will likely ask way too much for Fernandez. It’s messy down in Miami, but what else is new?
