Following their 1984 NL Pennant, San Diego simplified their look. The color combo of brown and orange capped off the toned down look.

At home, the brown pinstriped jerseys took on a new stylized “Padres” script in brown with an orange accent. The back of the jersey was done in the same light with brown player name and number with an orange outline.

The road gray jerseys, in a brown pinstripe, had the interlocking “SD” logo on the left chest. The player name and number was done in a brown with orange trim.

The hat was also simplified. The all brown lid featured the orange “SD” logo.

The Navy blue uniforms were good for a while, but they’ve gotten way too bland. It’s time to make brown, orange and gold the standard again. The Padres unis should be unique and eye catching. They are the spicy alternative to the Dodgers. If they’re going to build a new brand around Eric Hosmer, they should make a new (old) color scheme part of it.
