New York Yankees
A team to always be wary of making a big move is the New York Yankees. They have a need for an ace pitcher and Fernandez would be relatively cheap in terms of money. The Yankees have a ton of money coming off the books in the next few years and could easily extend Fernandez if he has a great year in 2016. By the time Fernandez does finally hit free agency, the Yankees would be the type of team with ample resources to re-sign him.
The prospects the Yankees have are probably the issue. Aaron Judge is a great young power threat. He has unreal power, but is still a work in progress. The Yanks also have Jorge Mateo at shortstop who has great speed but is still a few years away from being major league ready. Luis Severino makes an interesting option for the Marlins. Would the Marlins settle for a package headed by Judge and Severino? That remains to be seen.
The Yankees could make a move and get aggressive if they feel necessary. Right now the American League East has been very quiet except for the Red Sox, so perhaps they are waiting to see what goes down as the winter comes to an ending and Spring Training starts.
