- The Angels will spend money somewhere
This team has been really quiet so far this winter on the free agent market. The team has some money to spend and could use some pitching upgrades, but were very quiet when Price, Greinke and Cueto’s names were floating around. They have needs, but have yet to address them.
Perhaps the new front office is still taking time to assess the talent in the system. Albert Pujols has a foot issue and will be out to begin the season, so the team could use some pop in the middle of the lineup as well. They could easily sign two hitters. Names like Justin Upton and Alex Gordon could emerge for the Angels. They could also kick the tires on Yoenis Cespedes.
The team has a new look and the overhaul is just beginning. They are almost out of under the contracts of both Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson. Each are making $21 million this season and that is probably more than each veteran pitcher is worth. The team will have some flexibility after next year, so spending some long-term money this winter wouldn’t be a horrible idea for the Halos.
