  • The Rangers will sign or trade for a starting pitcher or two

When the Texas Rangers acquired Cole Hamels last season, the baseball world was a little shocked. Hamels boosted the Rangers from a .500 team into a playoff contender. All this without the Rangers ace of previous seasons Yu Darvish. The Japanese right hander under went Tommy John surgery and is expected to be ready around May 2016.

With Darvish out and recovering from a surgery of that magnitude, the Rangers will surely need some pitching help. Behind Hamels right now the Rangers have Derek Holland and Martin Perez. Two left-handed pitchers that battled injuries in 2015. The depth behind them is nonexistent. Chi Chi Gonzalez, Jose Leclerc, and A.J. Griffin are currently penciled in for the last two spots in the rotation until Darvish is ready in May. They need help.

The Rangers have been rumored to be talking to former Ranger Yovani Gallardo who pitched for the team in 2015. He became a free agent and is a decent option to return, but nothing has come to fruition yet between the two sides. There are plenty of veteran major league pitchers out there looking for work, so the team will surely sign one or two pitchers. Mat Latos, Doug Fister and Tim Lincecum make decent option as each will come at a bargain price. The Rangers could also deal Jurickson Profar for a starting pitcher. Perhaps a deal with the Padres could be in order.
