St. Louis Cardinals Top 20 Prospects

1) Alexander Reyes – RHP

Date of Birth: August 29, 1994
Height/Weight: 6′ 3″/175 lbs.

Bats/Throws: Right/Right
Acquired: Signed as an International free agent in 2012

Reyes has two dominating pitches: a fastball that can hit triple digits and a curveball in the 70s that has good motion and depth to it. Reyes’ delivery doesn’t require him to over-tax himself, which bodes well for the top prospect’s health in the long run.

Reyes was thought to have already been knocking on the door after reaching AA and posting a 3.02 ERA over three levels in 2015, but unfortunately the righty failed a drug test and was hit with a 50-game suspension to start 2016. Now Reyes will have to continue to pitch well and prove he is clean if he wants a shot later in the 2016 campaign. Reyes must use the time off to re-focus, and must not get lazy. Reyes has to be ready to come back from suspension in shape and ready to prove the the Cardinals front office that he is deserving of being tabbed the top prospect.

Pretty good list. I disagree that Luke Weaver has ace potential. He has a wiry body that calls into question him being a workhorse. Also, serviceable is the highest praise he has gotten on his breaking pitch which bodes better for a mid rotation starter over an ace.
